The last few minutes have been rife with rumors of the sack of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Manager of Manchester United football club, though all appear to be false rumours at least as at the time of this writing but as you read this, the deed might have already been done.

Following Manchester United’s 4-1 loss to Watford this evening which follows a series of similar defeats in recent times, its more and more likely that the Glazers will be dangling the axe now but that is not my topic of discussion.

When Ole finally uses the exit door of the Manchester based club, he would be one of the last of his kind to take the bow – the kind being ‘untested’ ex players taking charge.

Indeed almost recently it became the norm for any team shopping for a new manager to hire any of her ex-players no matter how green the horns were but over time they were all fired – the easier they came, the easier they fell.

From Inzaghi at Juventus to Lampard at Chelsea, Ole at Man united and Gatusso at AC Millan, the last surviving appears to be Mikel Arteta at Arsenal whose hopes are hanging on a thread now with many feeling it’s just a matter of when and not if. And there is a reason Amaju Pinick (Nigeria Football Federation President) went for the services of Joseph Yobo as assistant Coach.

But most of these appointments do not seem to have been done on merit as Chelsea is not likely to have gone for a coach of Derby County in the lower division how has just spent only one year as coach if he wasn’t a former player and the same thing could be said of Solskjaer and Arteta which is different from Pochettino at PSG as he had made his mark as a coach and was actually sought after by the best Clubs in the world.
